We  have published  fine press books and prints since the turn of the century (OK- this century). The books are printed using handset type and wood engravings on an iron hand press. The single  prints are wood engravings printed directly from the block. All are produced in limited editions and printed on mould made or handmade paper. The prints on this site also include limited edition color digital prints which have been digitized from the original wood engraved prints and produced as larger color prints.

The proprietor and principle of Port Press is Michael McGarvey. He is ably assisted  at varying times by Denise McGarvey, Scott Norman Rosenthal, and Robin Shorten on the daunting tasks of printing on an iron hand press. Michael McGarvey, is Professor of Art at Richard Stockton College. Born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, he received a B.F.A. from Tyler School of Art and an M.F.A. in Graphic Design from Tyler School of Art. He has been teaching at Stockton since 1986 when he developed the Graphic Design Concentration in the Visual Art Program. In addition to teaching Graphic Design, Illustration and Animation,  his wood engravings have been featured in Multiples, Society of Wood Engravers newsletter, Block & Burin, Wood Engravers Network newsletter, and the Fine Press Book Association Deluxe Edition of the Journal, Parenthesis. He has exhibited his work in numerous group exhibitions including Society of Wood Engravers, Oxford UK, Wood Engravers Network Traveling Exhibition, Ocean City Art Center, Noyes Museum, and Solo exhibition at the Atlantic City Art Center and Richard Stockton College.
